I believe that you can improve your life through proper movement,  discipline, and dedication to fitness.

My name is Achilles and I am a:

  • Holistic Health Practitioner
  • Certified Personal Trainer
  • Nutritional Counselor
  • Yoga Teacher (in training)

I work with people who want to optimize their body by gaining weight to complete their frame.

I was sitting in my first Holistic Nutrition class when it the first gear clicked.

We were talking about carbohydrates and how they break down in instant energy.

And that fiber slows down the energy release of carbohydrates.

And I thought of the Apple.

The apple is made up of carbohydrate on the inside and fiber on the outside (in the skin).

The apple is naturally designed to provide consistent energy release when digested in its raw or cooked form.

When we drink apple juice (the equivalent of 3-6 apples) there is no fiber and the body responds accordingly.

It tries to process the carbohydrates efficiently but our bodies have not adapted for much reward(sugar) without fiber in nature.

The result is a sluggish feeling as our pancreas releases insulin to break down the fruit sugars.

The body attempts to find balance by shifting resources to digestion creating lethargy and reduced mental clarity.

Wait! I thought fruit juice was "healthy"

And this is when I embraced the fact that fruit juice is in fact, not optimum for health.  It is not unhealthy, but it is too easy to consume amount greater than the body can process.

It is more than making the best choices in nutrition. It is also about balance.

I was hooked once I learned this. Each week I continued to learn more myths that were not all together true such as:

  • Cholesterol from eggs is bad
  • Fat is bad
  • Meat causes clogged arteries
  • Everyone should be a vegetarian
  • Running is best way to lose weight

and the biggest misconception of all

That they body does not heal itself.

The body is system. By moving into balance through food, exercise, and clarity of thought you have the ability to strengthen and renew your body.

 It is my goal to help as many people as possible understand how to maximize their health.
